While share prices move up and down and dividends are always at the discretion of the board, bonds fall into a different investment category. the only way the coupon payments are not paid when due is when the company issuing them goes broke or is in financial strife. same goes when the bond is mature - the company either issues more to roll over the existing bonds or they pay out.
Could we not have those payments done automatically like taxes?
